Windows Vista Tip: Assigning Hotkey Shortcuts

Vista automatically assigns 10 keyboard shortcuts to the first 10 applications in your Quick Launch Menu. The keyboard shortcut consists of pressing (at the same time) the Windows key AND the number representing the order in which the application is in the Quick Launch Menu. (The 10th item would be assign to zero, "0".)

For example, if the following 5 items are listed in the following order, then the hotkey shortcut would be as follows:

    Order
    Number

    --------Application/Item--------

    Shortcut

    1

    Minimize  desktop

    Win + 1

    2

    Flip 3D

    Win + 2

    3

    Firefox

    Win + 3

    4

    Windows Explorer

    Win + 4

    5

    Media Center

    Win + 5
