E7 Blog runs down the Windows 7 Taskbar changes

In one of a few post that doesn’t suck on the E7 blog today there is a look at the Windows 7 Taskbar. It does keep with the trend on that blog of rather lengthy posts so here are the highlights.

  • Larger Icons by default
  • 10 pixels higher than Vista
  • More Prominent glass
  • unified quick launch & taskband
  • interactive, grouped thumbnails
  • Aero peek – will show the full window on hover over
  • Jumplists – surface commonly used programs, destinations
  • fully customizable notification area
  • overlay progress bars and icons
  • hot track

They have pics of many of these features at the blog form a shell lab 6948 build.

I find all the posts on the E7 blog interesting... I notice everyone just complains becuase they often don't describe specific features, but I like seeing how the development process works

So, 10 pixels higher than Vista, that means I lose another 10 pixels of real estate to a tool/feature that I hardly use as is??  ALT+Tab works perfectly fine and grouping of my windows just makes getting to them more complicated if I do use my taskbar.  Does Microsoft own Apple stock or something?  It's like they want to push all of their customers to OSX.
