Everyone knows about the new Zune hardware by now, probably the worst kept secret ever, but did manage to steal Apple thunder for a few days. If you have not heard go here.  More important to those of you sporting a Microsoft Zune already though is that you can look forward to the Zune 3.0 software update on Sept 16th. That is one week from today for those counting down. Here is a highlight of what’s coming.

Zune Software

  • Channels – These are basically pre-made or software generated playlists for you to purchase.
  • Personal Picks – Zune software will learn the music you like and offer recommendations on similar music.
  • Mixview – a dynamic visual mosaic of related music and listeners, whatever that means.
  • Nowplaying – improved now playing is interactive and cinematic

Zune Firware update

  • Buy from FM – Heard a cool song on now you can purchase it right over a WiFi connection.
  • Wireless browsing, streaming and downloading from Zune Marketplace – very cool, way overdue.
  • Games on the go – You will get two free games, Hexic and Hold’em.
  • Audiobook support (audible and Overdrive)

I for one can't wait for the new update!  I've been a hardcore Zune fan since the very first 30G device came out.  Long live the Zune!  Death to itunes!
