The HP HDX Winner is...

A great big thank you to everyone who entered our contest.  I know many of you have never really been to our site and I hope that you have enjoyed the competition and will stick around and contribute with as much passion as you all did for the competition. Without further ado...

The Winner is -

William Ragan (A.K.A Zane Savage) of Harrisburg. IL.  In his entry Zane took over his own web site for us. Placed our URL on his car and drove around town. Shaved his chest (I'm betting this is getting a bit itchy now) and paraded around town with our URL on his chest and back. He even got a tattoo with our URL on his leg. For the record, he would have won without the tattoo....so here is his entry which you can watch for yourself.

Zane we hope you will send us another video of your unboxing and your initial thoughts...  Best of luck and enjoy your new Dragon prize package!

WOW... I was impressed by all the *real* entries. Some of you guys are quite creative (stop motion stuff, all the good wallpapers and widgets/gadgets). But in the end Zane's entry took it up a notch. Thanks to everyone who played along, and thanks to HP for the promo.

heh, the site doesn't show your link, the guy just posed for speedy cars and no one else was even on the sidewalks, that wasn't a tattoo but just a regular pen.

you basically got punk'd.

Hi Zane, just wanted to add my kudos and basically tell you that your nuts!  You must have really wanted that laptop bad!  And thanks to everyone who entered!  There really were some great entries.

And Zooter, his site did show our link, trust me, we checked.  Just chill out man, there will be more contests.

zooter wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

i'm cool, but thing is... how does the video comply to the rules? i mean, it's not creative, not that appealing, and certainly won't help promote the site or even last as a "long term value".

he even said the link will be there forever. he lied, even if he did not, the winning pick was absolutely nothing from the rules!

not being a sore loser at all! i just wanna ask josh this...

on what basis did you select the winner? does the word "creative" mean baking the rules, or you just took the video personally, liked it, ignored who followed the rules and contradicted yourself?

the rules should have been something like... say nice things to me, make nice things to me, and the most fraud takes it all.

Josh Phillips wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Hi Zooter.

You are happy to ask and this certinaly wasn't some unilaterial desicion. In fact i was sure to go last so as to not influence things....

What you didn't see behind the scenes was all of the admins on this site weighing in on the entries in a private forums that only we can see.

We all voted and every single one selected Zane's entry as the top pick.

I understand it can be frustrating to work hard on something and not win.

With all the great entries I knew people would be resistant to any winner selected.

Again, We truely appreciate your efforts and we really hope you continue to share this type of passion with the community here.

you didn't answer the question, how does the video comply to the metrics mentioned in the contest's post? you've been exact and straightforward and upon that, i think everyone or at least most of the entrants worked their entries.

and yes, it is disappointing for me and probably a lotta people due dishonesty, but moreover, a bad reputation for WindowsConnected. the guy just yanked your ego, and instead of making you something that could have helped promoting your website, he made you an ass-kissing parade. i dunno how this is related to any kind of promotion

but for the HDX itself. you see where i'm pointing now?

maybe HP would appreciate it, but in the future when someone views the video, they'll know that WindowsConnected was offering a bribe for hypocrites talking all good about the website, and guess what? the bribe is over! you ran out of the HDX, and the website is still where it exactly was! good promotion.

i was interested in the contest because it seemed transparent and completely impartial, but thanks a lot, at least i know one of the reasons why your site needs publicity so bad.

enjoy your HDX zane. carry on...

Josh Phillips wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Zooter...the rules were simple.

"We are looking for you to help us promote WindowsConnected.com. This can be in any form that you deem worthy in the physical or the digital world"

Which he clearly did..

It is ok if you don't agree with the admins or even the other participants, but lets keep this civil...please

this wasn't personal, please don't take it that way.

infact i don't recall your alias (zooter) as an entrant.

yeah my email hasn't got any zooter.

GGCO wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Zooter,

I totally understand how you feel. I made the video with the robot, and when I learned that I didn't win I was angry too. I thought that Zane won just because of the tatoo. I personally think that I put more effort into my video, and that a robot promoting your site is more creative than some half-naked guy running around the street with your website's URL. But too bad. Obviously the judges didn't think so!

Congrats Zane!

BTW: Josh said that there are going to be more prizes....I suggest that you give them to the people who entered (the ones who were 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc)? That would be cool.

34skyline wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Zooter, I'm kinda feel the same way too I worked hard on those wallpapers and if I had a website or a podcast show maybe things would've turn out differently but what can you do just move on to the next one I guess you still have 20 more try's before it ends June 2, and GGCO your right also it should've been 2,3 prize winners for each category but theirs nothing we can do but congratulate Zane for winning the computer.

zooter wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...
on 05-21-2008 1:20 AM

I personally think the robot should have won, it's an amazing tool for publicity, even on a long term basis. If not, maybe the best artwork should have taken place and gave WindowsConnected a polish.

Maybe I need to be a little kiss-ass, which is a little hard though lol

Barbara Baker wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

So, when are the other cool surprizes going to be given out? will the extra winners be notified by email or do we need to keep checking back (which is alright by me...I've been coming back anyways)?

Josh Phillips wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Barbara,

I am waiting to hear back from HP on one of the potential additional give-a-ways.  It is a review unit that I have that they might let us give out. (not a notebook..but nice)

Barbara Baker wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Cool, Thanks Josh...well, back to TRYING to win one of these beauties. I'll be back later to bother you too.

GGCO wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Thanks Josh,

That would be really cool! I have one question though; are you going to give out prizes to 2nd and 3rd places? That would be cool. This site rocks!

Josh Phillips wrote re: The HP HDX Winner is...

Yes,

We are still planning to award several prizes to entrants.  How many in total is dependant on what we hear back obviously.
