New rumors are again going on this week about Microsoft and Yahoo talks. This time the rumor mill is saying that Microsoft is targeting buying just the search business.
Frankly I am sick and tired of hearing about these rumors. The segment of business that this represent for Microsoft is very small in relation to the rest of the company.
Microsoft did issue a statement, which states that despite walking away from the previous deal it hasn't closed the door completely.
“In light of developments since the withdrawal of the Microsoft proposal to acquire Yahoo! Inc., Microsoft announced that it is continuing to explore and pursue its alternatives to improve and expand its online services and advertising business. Microsoft is considering and has raised with Yahoo! an alternative that would involve a transaction with Yahoo! but not an acquisition of all of Yahoo! Microsoft is not proposing to make a new bid to acquire all of Yahoo! at this time, but reserves the right to reconsider that alternative depending on future developments and discussions that may take place with Yahoo! or discussions with shareholders of Yahoo! or Microsoft or with other third parties.
“There of course can be no assurance that any transaction will result from these discussions.”
I say, Yahoo! is doomed to a slow death now that shareholder smell blood (money) in the waters. Unless they can change the game there will be no stopping either a piece by piece sell off of services or an all out takeover in time.
Does anyone even care about this anymore? I know I don't.
Tied to this rumor is the fact that they Microsoft go after Facebook. I think this too would be a bad idea because Facebook is valued too high right now and its usage is probably on the verge of a decline. Just my take on my own personal usage of it.
