Live Mesh - Windows Meet Cloud

Microsoft took the covers off a new ambitious product, Live Mesh, that they are hoping becomes the center of your digital world.  The goal is simple, to give you one place to store, access, sync data from any device that will be Safe, Secure, and easily consumable from any number of different devices.

Some Interesting Highlights:

  • Folder Sync which will allow you to sync files and folders to multiple machines/devices in your Mesh
  • Will provide a "Live Desktop" which look like a psudeo Desktop session used to access stored files in your Mesh
  • 5GB of storage
  • Will have Mac support

Some of my thoughts:

It has the Windows Live look and feel which I don't feel integrates very well with the Windows Vista look and feel so it looks like it would be out of place. Especially the Windows Explorer integration they show at http://mesh.com

The mesh adds another management scheme which is getting redundant. I hope a future version of the Live products such as Windows Messenger, Folder Share, Live Drive, etc are more closely integrated so that all of these aren't separate management efforts.

I think people would be interested in consolidating and migrating files out of Live Drive, Windows Messenger sharing to Mesh for the added functionality, wonder if there will be an easy migration path or if Microsoft has even thought of that.

I just started with it (thank you), and so far it looks like it has some great potential going forward.  I also agree with you about the "look and feel" and the future integration.
