Shares of Logitech took off today on rumors that Microsoft is looking to acquire the company.
Microsoft has been getting deeper and deeper in the hardware game over the years. They have long dabbled here and there in hardware. They have a rich peripheral line, but Logitech's line up of hardware is much more diverse and deeper than anything Microsoft has to date.
The have the ever popular Harmony line of remotes, The new Squeeze box, and a long list of gaming accessories for platforms other than Windows and the Xbox. Which to me doesn't make much sense for Microsoft to get into, nor would they probably want to.
What would happen to these if Microsoft took over and started calling the shots? Well my guess would be 1.) a consolidation of products 2.) a greater tie to Microsoft and its related products and over time much less support of those other platforms.
I am going to chalk this one up to just a rumor and probably nothing more, because as it stands I can't seem to think of why Microsoft would want to do this.
What do you think?
