Internet Explorer 9 Code Named Triton?

ie7

In the Channel9 video today about IE 8 succeeding in passing the Acid2 test the interviewer accidentally drops what could be the codename for IE9. Play the video here and fast forward to 3:25.  What do you think of the slip?  Real, Fake? Thoughts?

Haven't had a chance to see the video, but could he have said "Trident," referring to the rendering engine?

I am aware that the rendering engine is Trident...check out the video...see what you think

Hi,

Charles here from Channel 9. Indeed, I said Triton, though I meant Trident (engine). Let me set the record straight: Triton is _not_ the code name of IE 9. That said, it's a cool code name that some product group should use! :)

Hope you enjoyed the interview.

@Charles: Triton is not hte codename of IE9, but is it the codename for IE8?

@ Charles - Thanks for stopping in and clarifying.  I watched the video a few times and Dean certainly had a reaction to the word.  Which I find pretty curious...maybe it means something else internally but isn't the codename to IE9?

It is CERTAINLY odd nonetheless..

@All Dean's reaction was simply one of "huh?". Trust me, there is nothing here... My crack about Triton being the codename for IE9 was just tongue in cheek  to add a little humor to the situation. Sorry for adding confusion. Since I don't edit out the stupid things I say in my interviews, well, here we are :)

Aww!  I thought Triton sounded real! After all, IE 7 was Rincon (a great surfing beach). Triton is a beach, too.

Is IE 8 named after a beach? Inquiring codename hounds want to know :)

@Charles - I can't get my tin foil hat off, Dean's reaction didn't seem like a "huh" moment to me...it was a more peeved or upset with a hint of quizative..

Now while I am inclined to go with it isn't IE9...it just has be wondering if maybe if the new engine is called triton (the trident was his spear, if i remember correctly)

@Josh - That's Dean's way of saying "huh?" :) If in fact Triton had any meaning I certainly wouldn't hide it from you given that we are having this discussion. Remember, C9 is not run by PR or Marketing. We're as interested in the truth as you are! There is no truth here...
