Today Microsoft is kicking off the first beta of Office Live Workspace. This product will provide users with an online document repository and collaboration portal with seamless access from Office products.
What does that mean? Well this isn't web based version of Office products, but rather think of this as "cloud" storage and collaboration capabilities that are integrated with the Office client suite. Largely this has a feel of working with SharePoint that is integrated with Windows Live ID (Passport). If you are familiar at all with that experience this will be a natural transition.
The Office client integration (via the add-in) is rich and will allow you to browse the site/libraries as naturally as you would your local hard drive. While it was a little slow for me in the early site I was given access to it was very usable and I was told the beta version that people are getting access to today shouldn't have this problem.
Here are a couple of quick screens of what you can expect:

While I have played with an early version of this product I for obvious reasons couldn't play with some of the collaborative aspects of this in any meaningful way and will continue to explore this exciting product in its beta form.
Be sure to keep an eye on the Windows Live Workspace community for further insights.
