Today the SharePoint Product Group blog has some detail on the upcoming Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Server. Some of the Highlights are:
- Windows Server 2008 Support and Compatibility - all SKU's except Core
- ASP.NET for AJAX Compatibility and Support Including Support for Web Parts Built with AJAX Control Toolkit for ASP.NET and AJAX 1.0 Extensions (941955)
- New STSAdm Commands
- Mergecontentdbs
- Renamesite
- Peoplepicker
- Includes 60+ Hotfixes Across WSS 3.0 SP1 / SharePoint Server 2007 SP1
Typically the sharing of this level of detail means that a release is right around the corner. Since SharePoint is considered part of the overall Microsoft 2007 Office system you can logically conclude that both SharePoint and Office 2007 will ship their Service Packs fairly soon, maybe even before the end of the year?
At TechEd in Spain, they did mention that we would seeing Office 2007 SP1 in early 2008. What I find odd about all this is that we haven't heard of anything about a new release since the Office 2007 Technical Preview back in August. Does that mean there won't be a more public opportunity to test before the release? Looking very likely.
