I couldn't get a confirmation out of Stardock, like Mary Jo, but looks like Stardock will be shipping DeskScapes 2.0 soon and it will remove the requirement that you have Windows Vista Ultimate to use the product.
This has huge implications as the best, and coolest, "Ultimate Extra" that has shipped so far has been "DreamScene". DreamScene provides the ability have animated wallpapers by playing videos in MPG and WMV format.
Stardock, who is a Microsoft gold partner, had expanded this capability with its .dream format when they shipped the DeskScapes 1.0 and looks to be bringing this capability to an even wider audience with DeskScapes 2.0 possibly as soon as today.
The catch? Well it won't be free like the current DeskScapes is. The rumored price is about 20 bucks, but compare that to the price different between Windows Home Premium and Ultimate if all you really wanted was the "DreamScene" capabilities and it is a steal.
Update: Turns out there will likely be two versions. One that is free and one that cost 20 dollars with enhanced functionality...whatever that means.
