This week AMD launched its new Quad-Core Opteron processor. This latest offering, designed with data centers and energy efficiency in mind, is again showing how AMD is a great innovator. While energy saving will attractive many high end customers so will the 50% increase in integer and floating-point performance. The attractive pricing structure will also capture a great deal of customers looking for the most processing power for their money.


AMD has been losing ground to Intel in market share and struggling to make meet profit expectations. They have lost several high placed individuals which many have thought would signal further troubles for the embattled company.
AMD was for the longest time favored by gamers and those on wanting to be on the cutting edge for its superior performance. This translated to buzz in the community and made sales sky rocket. Do you think AMD get back to these roots? Will this launch be enough to lure the mainstream back to AMD? Or will people continue to pay a premium for Intel?
