Ultimate Extras, Two Weeks and Counting

We are in the final two weeks of summer and still no word on what or if anything is happening with Ultimate Extras.  The Ultimate Extra blog still hasn't been updated since July 2nd when it said it intended to deliver DreamScene and the Language Packs by the end of summer.

We intend to ship Windows DreamScene and the remaining 20 Language Packs by the end of the summer. We will not ship the last two Extras showcased in January (Windows DreamScene and the remaining 20 Language Packs) until they meet the high quality bar required by our enthusiastic customers—and we believe that we can achieve that bar by the end of this summer.

I don't know about you, but I am beginning to think they won't make it.

I would be happy if they allowed you to delete a saved game of "Hold'em" when you're done playing the saved game. As it stands right now, you have to go to your "Saved Games" folder in your user folder and then delete the file "HoldEm.HoldEmSave-ms".

I think there is little hope of them getting holdem right if they can't even ship Dreamscene.

If there’s one thing you can count on when it comes to Microsoft, is they, pretty much, never ship a piece of software when they say they will.

Alas the brilliant working  - "We intend to" gets them out of that commitement. It's the first time Microsoft have really annoyed me. I'm a fan, obsessed with many of their products, and forever defending Microosoft with my friends who do nothing but moan about Windows.. and yet, for this.. well, there is just no excuse. We've been conned with the Extras, perhaps not legally, but morally there is no doubt in my mind.

William,

I think everyone agrees. The up-sell with ultimate was with the promise of cool stuff, but we have all been let down. Everyone who bought ultimate is feeling a little conned at this point.

For me the whole Ultimate scam is on par with the recent iPhone mess of sticking it to the early adopter crowd, The only difference is that Apple glibly handed out $100 vouchers for the Apple fanboys to get all wet and rushing to the Apple store to spend.

Ultimate users - nada

Steve,

Excellent point and if Microsoft can't right the ultimate ship then I bet they too will have to start giving aways rebates sooner or later.

I love MS products as well. Running Ultimate kinda makes me feel like a sucker. My kids run Home Premium, besides MS's joke of extras, there is no difference. Unless, of course, you are counting COST! I won't be going down this beaten path again with MS. I won't be buying their top of the line any more.

I just cannot get as upset/excited about the release (on time or not) of "extras" that are for Dreamscene and 20 languages.

I only use one language and as for Dreamscene, I don't sit and stare at my screen all day.

Yes, I agree MS should meet their commitments but all the rant for more languages and Dreamscene seems extraneous.

Was there an Extra mentioned in January that involved photo editing (selecting best photo of a person/persons and then merging them into one photo.  I'm probably wrong but I thought it was something like "Picture it" or some similar name.
