PC World Gets Hands-On with HP MediaSmart Home Server

Filed in the I am totally jealous category, looks like Tom Spring of PC World has scored a hands on with an HP MediaSmart Home Server. They highlight some of the things that HP is throwing into the mix to separate its offering from other Home Server vendors coming to market.  here is a glimpse:

  • the ability to use your own custom domain (something I really wanted to see in the product)
  • Photo Webshare - allows the easy creation of web galleries to share with family. A natural extension of the platform since it runs IIS already.
  • Sync iTunes libraries creating a single library for the whole household.

Most of the screenshots have a Vista GUI...??  Home Server is based on Server 2003 code so... I am assuming those are pictures taken from a client?

Yes, the console typically is run from the client since the box is designed to be headless.
