Home Server Won't Launch On August 27th, Or Will It?

Mary Jo Foley posted over the weekend saying that Window Home Server won't ship on August 27th, the General Availability date that Long pointed out last week from the Microsoft Support Lifecycle site.

I think what Microsoft was saying to Mary Jo was the they don't know when OEM's will be shipping hardware, which is how they want people to get Windows Home Server. I however could care less about some OEM hardware and as it turns out vendors are already selling Windows Home Server software and even shipping in some countries, as members of the Windows Home Server forums have found.

The only date I really care about is when I can purchase the system builder version of the software online, to me that is "Launch"...So, despite what Microsoft said, I still think they are just trying to keep focus on OEM hardware.  I will keep my eyes on the folks like Newegg who sell the system builder versions around August 27th.
