Windows Live Folders Now Called SkyDrive

Today Microsoft announced the final naming for its "cloud" storage will be SkyDrive.  I personally liked LiveDrive better, but hey it is better than most of the other product names coming out of Microsoft.  Here is a quick glimpse of the service, if you hadn't seen it before.

You can create folders that only you can see, you can share with your contacts or even make them open to anyone on the internet.  I went ahead and created a public folder here for you to see what the experience is like, complete with a photo of my new dog.

Check it out at skydrive.live.com you'll get 500mb of storage for free that you can access from any machine around the world.

Color me unimpressed. I gave feedback that this service should be integrated as a back-end to Folder Share. That way I get PC-to-PC sync on my own machines, but can access the same files via the 'sky' when I'm on a public terminal or another person's machine. Unless they implement some tighter integration or more compelling features, I don't plan on using it much. Heck, AOL's X-Drive is better than this (can't believe I just said that). Anyway, thanks for the heads-up Josh!

I agree to be a real killer app it will need to have tight integration with Windows.
