TechEd 2007 Day 3 - Windows Home Server, RC Next week?

I just got out of the Windows Home Server lunch session and wanted to get some quick info up for folks.  If you aren't familiar with Windows Home Server you should check out the product page first here.

First there are only going to be two ways for people to get the SKU. First is from an OEM like HP the other method will be from System Builders.  If you were hoping for picking this up at your local big box off the shelf, like me, we are out of luck.  there might be one exception to this and that could be the current beta test population. He was hopeful that they would be able to provide RTM to the existing beta testers, but as with all things there is no guarantee.

The second bit of really useful information was that we might see an RC version of Home server as early as next week.  If you have been holing out rebuilding your home server on RC, like me, then with any luck next week is what you have been waiting for.

For those that couldn't make it today there will be another session on Friday at 9am details should be on CommNet.

Hi Josh,

We should be able to buy the systembuilder SKU ourselves via places like newegg.com, ebuyer.com etc. That was confirmed in WinHEC - are they now backtracking on this? Would be cool if you could confirm.

Thanks for the scoop!

Terry

Hey Terry,

I will have to try and run someone from that team down as the press area has all cleared out.

If I do run into someone I will post it back here.

So Terry I got an email back from several of the product guys and it seems they are agreeing that newegg and some online shops might have it, but they were yet again very vague.
