VMware To Drop VMTN Subscriptions

In an email sent to current VMware Technology Network (VMTN) subscribers today VMWare has annouced that as of February 16,2007 they will no longer sell or renew VMTN Subscriptions.  VMTN is a subscription service that many users of VMware products took advantage of to get access to the full suite of products from VMware much like MSDN at Microsoft.

The change, the note says, is a result of making VMware server and VMware Player free products, making the VMDK disk format an open format, among others. If you are current subscriber you can continue to take advantage of services available to you through the remainder of your agreement. Per Incident support that was purchased as part of your VMTN will be honered for one year from date of purchase.

You can see the full email and discuss in the forums here
