VMware Workstation 6 Beta Program Begins Adds Support for Vista

The folks over at VMWare have just started a beta for VMware Workstation 6.0 that adds support for Windows Vista as a host opertating system and a number of other cool new features like Multiple monitor display. 

  • Support for Windows Vista - Use Windows Vista as host operating system
  • Multiple monitor display - You can configure a VM to span multiple monitors, or multiple VMs to each display on separate monitors
  • Integrated Virtual Debugger - Workstation integrates with Visual Studio and Eclipse so you can deploy, run, and debug programs in a VM directly from your preferred IDE
  • Automation APIs (VIX API 2.0) - You can write scripts and programs to automate VM testing
  • Headless mode - You can run VMs in the background without the Workstation UI
  • VMWARE Workstation 6.0 Beta

    FWIW - I had to remove this from my Vista laptop due to the way VMware 6 handles virtual NICs.  VMware has always added 2 new NICs to my systems, but on Vista I can't configure them as private... and as such, it messes up my sharing settings, etc.  They need to make some tweaks to the virtual NICs before releasing another build.  I bugged it and provided feedback... so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this problem will be addressed.  And no, this isn't a UAC problem... nor am I the only person to report it in the forums.  Consider yourself warned ;)
