Java on Vista Keep the Glass

I can't say I am the biggest fan of the Sun JRE, but since Sun and the US legal system put the kabash on the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine we aren't able to be picky these days. If you have been testing the Sun JRE on Windows Vista at all you would know then once you invoke a java applet it would disable Aero Glass, well untill recently that is according to Chet Hasse's Blog.  Chet is an architect in the Java client group at Sun and his post has all the wonderful details on the problems they have been facing porting over to Windows Vista. It's a good read if you are into long technical posts.

The bottom line is that Java SE 6, which is currently in Beta, is going to be what Sun recommends for Windows Vista. My secret desire is that people migrate off of the Java platform. Think it will happen?

I read Chets writtings. It would be nice if, when promped to download the java plugin, we were redirected to a somewhat supported build. Shame on me for becoming passive with java to think that my system version would be a parameter for the version of java that gets installed. For months they have been compatible with Vista, yet even right now, the only mention of Vista is under Developer Spotlight (Chets article). It's probably my fault that Quicktime properties screen disables aero too. If people/companies get upset with rumors of compatibility issues than let it be known otherwise. Stripe that **** all over your website. Let us know it is compatible with a beta version. Otherwise, at least myself, will be forced to think you/your company is ignorant with change.

I agree... until this week we were running java 1.5.06 since that is what the public download site has.  This is a half truth answer from them because very few would find this download.

Off Java and on to what? .NET? Ok, but now where's my portability?

"Mono for Linux" you say, "and for the world of embedded, bring on some .NET CF". No thanks, much to far from the polished cross platform goodness that Java has built up. Sorry, Java's here to stay.
