Microsoft has launched a new developer oriented community called devreadiness.org to help all the would be Windows Vista ISV’s get ready for the substantial changes they will have to deal with for Windows Vista logo compliance. This program called “Certified for Windows Vista” offers guidance on how the application should behave, what technologies must be used in your installer, and other general guidance.
This marks the beginning of a full-court press by Microsoft to engage vendors and help get as many applications as possible that will run and behave correctly on Windows Vista by launch. Current rumored date for Vista general availability is early next year, which doesn’t leave an ISV a lot of time.
Microsoft has also begun offering a Windows Vista 101 class targeted at Microsoft partners such as OEM’s, IHV’s, and ISV’s. Upon completion of the class you get a nice little certificate, a wallpaper, and a screensaver. If you want to skip the class and just get the wallpaper you can find that in our files section.
