Yawn... New Windows Desktop Search 3.0 Beta 2 Released

When is a new software release not exciting?  When it simply replaces functionality removed by a previous release.  This is the case with Windows Desktop Search 3.0 Beta 2, which is now available on the Microsoft Download page (32–bit XP, 64–bit XP and Windows Server 2003 32–bit and 64–bit)

For those of you who forgot what the UI looked like after installing Office 2007 & the previous WDS build, here’s a few screen shots.  However, if you’ve been running the older WDS build (version 2.6 – the one before they removed the UI)… then there’s nothing to get excited about.  Heck, I probably didn’t even need to blog this :P

No, you did need to blog this.  If this fixes the problems with the lack of desktop search I've had since I installed Office 2007 beta then I'm very excited to have read your post (as I haven't seen this elsewhere).

Thanks.

(I would like to vote for full blog listings in the RSS feed instead of the summary only.)

Hmm... I'll have to check w/ Josh on the RSS feeds.  My admin interface shows that the full post is published via RSS.  Maybe there's something global that's overriding my settings.  Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Thanks for checking into it.   I'm viewing it through Bloglines for what it's worth.  I think it just started a few weeks ago.  I believe I got full feeds when I first subscribed.

The front page RSS was replaced with one from feedburner to offer more functionality/flexability. However, there is a direct main full feed still you can find it here. http://windowsconnected.com/blogs/mainfeed.aspx

The intent with offeing the summary was to drive more people to visit the site to hopefully liven up the forums and other areas....but maybe we should re-evaluate that.

I open to the debate

Just a followup -- this DID fix my desktop search problem!   So, I'm quite thankful to have that back.  I don't want to live without Outlook 2007 AND Desktop Search.  Before it was one or the other.

Thanks for the heads up and the RSS feed info!

I removed the summary from feedburner.  Should be full feeds for everyone now...
