Yep, I just let my wife's Zune 30 battery die and booted it up yesterday afternoon. It works perfectly again. I expect Microsoft will issue some points to everyone to compensate for this blunder.

The fix says after noon GMT on January 1st, which is 7:00AM Eastern Time. That time will be in about eight hours from now, you'll have to wait a bit longer, sorry.

That's it exactly. Must be some kind of Y2K9 issue. I have heard that some people are fixing it by taking it apart, removing the battery, then putting it all back together, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Amen, I just heard this because someone text messaged me and asked if mine was dead. Since I've been using my 80G (which is still fine) I went and grabbed my wife's 30G zune (she got my old one) and sure enough, it's stuck on the 'Zune' boot screen with the progress bar full. Is that the lockup everyone else is getting as well? I too love Zune, so hopefully this gets fixed quick, otherwise it will be a huge set back, similar to the Xbox 360 (which I also love) RRD.

I am a huge Zune fan and defender. While I am glad it just wasn't mine that died, I am very concerned about this. Very interesting....
