After running the Anytime Upgrade and playing around with Vista some more, I remembered that I hadn't installed any Ultimate Extras. So I fired up Windows Update to get them and, to my dismay, there were none available. Then I realized that I'm getting updates from a WSUS server. So I logged into WSUS and started looking for the Extras, but they were nowhere to be found there, either. I thought to myself, "Ultimate Extras, where are you?" Hmmm, somehow, that sounds vaguely familiar...
As it turns out, Ultimate Extras aren't available through WSUS. Yet.
In any case, Extras are not available for WSUS admins to deploy, so computers in WSUS-managed domains cannot install any Extras.
That's not a good situation for customers, so we plan to improve it. The Ultimate team is working with Windows Update to revise the Extras to be offered to WSUS.
This change will mean all users of Ultimate—even business users, provided their IT administration approves—will have the choice of installing Ultimate Extras.
When? Later this year is all the Ultimate team is saying, but hopefully it will be sooner than later. In the meantime, I'm off to create a new OU with inheritance blocking so I can download updates straight from Microsoft and get my Texas Hold' Em Poker game. And Dream Scene, because I've got lots of extra processor cycles to kill.
