Apple's iTunes Not Yet Compatible With Vista

News from the Apple side of the fence:

Apple Inc. is urging some iPod and iTunes users to hold off on upgrading their computers to Windows Vista, warning that the iTunes music software might not work well with Microsoft's new operating system.

Apple is urging users of their software not to upgrade to Vista? Really? I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

Now I know there is a little direct competition here, but seriously, couldn't a company with Apple's resources have come up a Vista-compatible version of iTunes by now? Especially when one of the side effects of plugging your iPod into a Vista machine is listed as "possible failures of iPods"?

Personally, I have had no issues with my iPod syncing with Vista. However, It is pretty obvious that iTunes isn't quite ready to work reliably with the Aero interface, I have had plenty of issues there. Here's a screenshot:

I do give Apple credit for at least patching the holes while they bring iTunes up to speed. They have released version 1.0 of the iTunes Repair Tool for Vista, which should fix an issue where media purchased through the iTunes store will not play.

If you are planning on installing Vista and you use iTunes, and you don't want to wait for Apple to relase the next version, you can at least minimize your risk by following Apple's suggestions for upgrading which can be found here.
